How To Run Your Business From Anywhere

Running a business used to involve spending hours chained to a desk in an office. Nowadays, thanks to modern technology, it’s possible to run a business from pretty much any location. Below are just some of the ways to run a business from anywhere. 

Ditch the desktop

Desktop computers have their advantages, but typically aren’t necessary to run a business. Today’s laptops are powerful enough to handle all of a business owner’s admin needs, while providing the ability to work anywhere from a park bench to a train carriage. Tablets and smartphones can also be used to handle many business tasks. These devices offer even more flexibility as you can stand up while using them. That said, you may not be able to solely rely on these devices when running a business - laptops are still more practical for writing tasks (although using a bluetooth keyboard may be a way around this). 

Work from the cloud

Putting all your data on the cloud allows you to access it remotely from a range of devices. Most modern applications are cloud-based and allow you to access the same data from different devices, provided that you have the same apps installed on all of them. As for storing general files, there are many cloud services for startups that you can use to store all of this information. Make sure to choose a cloud provider that provides enough space for your needs while also being affordable. 

Stay connected

Working from the cloud requires a constant internet connection. Fortunately, many places have public wi-fi nowadays that you can log onto. Just make sure that you’re using a VPN so that your connection is secure when using these public wi-fi connections. Data plans (which are popular with smartphones) and portable wi-fi routers are another means of staying connected on the go. This reduces the need to log onto public wi-fi and could give you more freedom as to where you can work from. However, you’ll need to budget for the extra cost of having wi-fi on the go. 

Host video meetings

While face-to-face meetings can be more valuable than phone calls and email conversations for many situations, you don’t have to meet in person. Video calls can be used to host face-to-face meetings with people without having to travel to physically meet up with that person. There are many different video call software options that you can use including Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. 

Bring a charger

Many public places now have charging points for charging up your devices so that you don't have to work on a limited battery life. Just make sure that you bring your chargers with you wherever you go. For even more flexibility, you could consider bringing a portable charger with you. Power banks can hold enough electricity to charge a device fully several times, however you do need to remember to regularly charge these power banks. Solar chargers can be an option when working outside - these chargers are able to power themselves up using energy from the sun.
