Five Tips To Help Protect And Prevent Fraud In Business

Protecting a business nowadays is something that should be taken seriously. There are a lot of dangers that exist online that could result in a business falling victim to fraud and other security breaches from hackers.

There are preventative measures that can be taken to ensure this doesn’t happen. It’s something that’s reaching concerning levels with 46% of surveyed organizations done by PwC reported experiencing fraud in the last 24 months.

With that in mind, here are five tips to help protect and prevent fraud in the business.

Encrypt and back up data

When it comes to the data that a business holds, be sure to encrypt it so that no one can easily access it. If they do get hold of the data the encryption should hopefully restrict them from seeing what a company doesn’t want them to see.

It’s also worthwhile backing up data in order to help avoid data being lost or damaged in the midst of a hacker attack. If data is stolen fraudulently, then it can be retrieved with the backups in place.

Identify any weak spots for security

As a business, there are always going to be odd, weak spots within the chink of the armor that protects it. It’s therefore worthwhile to identify any weak spots within the security of the business so that improvements can be made to sort this.

Even the biggest corporations can experience problems with vulnerabilities in security. It’s always good to look out for it.

Have secure payment processes in place

To help customers feel safe, it’s good to have a secure payment process in place. HBMS provides high risk payment processing that’s ideal for many businesses nowadays to take advantage of. They can benefit from this payment processing in place as many fraudulent attacks can tend to take place during this element of business transactions.

By having a secure payment process in place, the business is immediately trusted more by the customers in question.

Train employees to spot scam and hacking attempts

When it comes to employees, they hold some responsibility for making sure that they are protecting the business and any client data from harm. It’s always good to help give employees the tools they need to spot the signs of fraudulent activity and behavior on the system.

This can only be done with regular training, so it’s good for businesses to invest some of their annual budget into providing this training where possible.

Educate customers and clients to prevent personal fraud

Finally, it’s always good to give customers and clients that additional guidance when it comes to preventing personal fraud. It’s definitely useful to help educate them in how to prevent personal fraud from occurring. Being mindful of their own data and how they use it with the business and elsewhere, can be helpful in avoiding fraud altogether.

Protecting and preventing fraud doesn’t always work but it can help to be proactive. Use these tips to make sure fraud doesn’t happen within the business this year and beyond.

  1. These are very good tips for a real problem that threatens us most everyday!! It makes me feel sick that people have nothing better to do than try and steal from hardworking companies and families!! I’m all for stiffer penalties and making the guilty pay it all back - even if they happen to have monetary items or other worthy items that they want to pass off to loved ones. Heck they wanted to steal what you or a company has!! This article was pin worthy!!! TY for sharing!!

  13. Here's one for you (I was the victim of this) - AMEX gift cards, including BUSINESS ones, are very easy to STEAL. They have no covering on the PIN code; heck they have no real pin code. You can't set one when the card is activated or gifted. You don't get any notice someone is quietly draining the gift card in the background. Thankfully for me - the thief mostly used it via Paypal which has a very strong FRAUD policy.
