Essential Items Needed When You Own A Dog

If you have recently got yourself a family pet then you may be wondering what items you need for them. Some of the ones listed below may seem pretty obvious, but you would be surprised by how many people forget.

Food & Water Bowls

Some dogs can be quite stubborn with food and water bowls. If you don’t give them the same bowl that they are used to then they might refuse to drink or eat out of them. Similarly, you may find that your dog prefers eating off the floor or on a plate. This is simply a personal preference of your animal and it’s nothing that you need to be overly concerned about. It’s still useful to have food and water bowls for trips or when you take your dog to a new place.

Collar & Lead

When it comes time to take them on walks, you’re going to need a collar and lead to ensure that they stay with you. This is going to be important when you are walking by a road, or even somewhere that they are unfamiliar with. You can even look into purchasing something like a dog harness with handle if this makes it easier for your dog to walk with you.

Blankets

You might think this is an obvious one, but a lot of people forget that dogs like to be cozy as well. If you wouldn’t sleep on the cold, hard floor then you can’t expect your dog to do this either. When you get your pooch they should come with blankets that they are used to being around. This blanket will have familiar smells and calm the dog down, make sure you keep these. There are many varieties of blankets you can get your hands on these days. You can even get one that looks like a doggy sleeping bag to use when your pet has gotten a bit soggy

Insurance

Finally, you do need to make sure that you invest in insurance when you have a dog. Insurance will protect you from the worst costs that come with a pet like this. For instance, it will ensure that you don’t have to worry about expensive surgeries that your dog may require at some point in its life. Do be aware that insurance rates differ from company to company but so does the level of cover provided. As such, you should think about completing a thorough search to find the best option for you on the market overall. It’s also worth noting that insurance will get more expensive as your dog ages. As such, you may need to switch suppliers when the rates change.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the essential items that you are going to need when you own a dog. It’s important to understand that these are the very basics, and you will need to purchase other items for them to enjoy their life. We wish you the very best of luck and hope that you love your new little furry friend.

  59. You really do know about dog’s ways and how they like when they want, and want what they like! I had to pin this! Both of our animals know their own food and water bowls. I can’t even switch them around when they are out of the room! I don’t dare scrub them super clean. I might as well buy new ones. Because that’s the way they would treat them. They like their own beds. They are creatures of habit; just like humans! The insurance is really good to have! We had to take a small loan out when our dog was hit by a car. We would have tried a lot of things to keep out family member alive and well. It’s better to be prepared! Thank you so much for sharing! Merry Christmas 🎄
