Practical Style Tips For Moms

Just because you’re a Mom, that doesn’t mean you can’t still look stylish. You might have to think about making some more practical choices in your clothes, so your style is suited to running around after your children. With these easy tips, you can feel chic and stylish, with a wardrobe geared around the challenges of childcare.

Add Interest With Print And Color

Mom style often means choosing very simple pieces. Being a mom can be a very physical thing, whether you’re on the floor playing or carrying around a toddler. This means you often need to choose simple cuts, with nothing that will restrict your movement or anything trailing for small children to grab and stretch. If you’re in simple shapes, that doesn’t mean you can’t look cute.

Even if you’re wearing jeans and a t-shirt, you can make the look more interesting by getting creative with print and color. Choose a beautifully patterned shirt and pick out a key color from the print to use for the color of your pants. Experiment with patterned pants or jackets and express your style in a much more interesting way.

Choose Interesting Jewelry

Jewelry can add a lot of interest to even the most simple outfit. Depending on the age of your children, you might need to choose more practical pieces. If you have younger children, you need to think about jewelry that will be safe from grabbing hands. This means choosing stud earrings instead of hoops, and wearing necklaces that can stand up to some rough handling.

Instead of delicate necklaces, choose chunky pieces with either plastic or acrylic. This look young and cool, but are also much more hard-wearing while still adding some color and interest to a plain top.

Find Time For Hair And Make-Up

Taking a little time out for yourself in the morning to get ready will make you feel more like you and less like just Mom. Even a simple make-up routine can make you feel better. For a fast face, choose a tinted moisturizer (pick one with an SPF for an even faster routine), and pop on mascara. With a slick of lip balm, you’re ready to go. You can put on more with more time, but this simple face is a good start.

Take some time to style your hair. A lot of Moms like to keep their hair out of their faces during the day, to allow for easier playtime. There are lots of hair styles that will do this for you, while still looking pretty. A messy ponytail looks cute and casual, or you could go for a french braid when you’re feeling fancy. If you haven’t had time to wash your hair, give it a refresh with a blast of dry shampoo.

Get Organized

Moms know that any snatched minutes they can get to themselves are precious. This often means that there isn’t much time to plan an outfit for the morning, meaning you throw on the same old jeans and a sweater.

Organize your wardrobe, so the same kind of clothes are together. This way, you could find what you want much faster. Another good trick is to plan your outfits the night before. When the kids are in bed, you can spend some time choosing an outfit, with accessories. Then, in the morning, there are no decisions to make, and you can just get dressed and get on with the day.

Choose The Right Shoes

As a Mom, you’re probably on your feet for a lot of the day. It’s important that your shoes are comfortable and offer proper support for your feet. This doesn’t mean your shoes can’t look good though. Sneakers are having a moment, and there are lots of stylish options available now. Choose a cool style, or a leather sneaker in a pretty color. Your feet will be supported but still look good.

Have Regular Wardrobe Edits

Lots of us have bursting wardrobes but feel like we have nothing to wear. This happens because the good pieces get hidden by the pieces you don’t love. A few times a year, find some time to go through the wardrobe. Take everything out and look at each item one by one. Anything that doesn’t fit, is worn out or you don’t wear anymore needs to go. You’ll have a smaller wardrobe, but it’s only pieces you actually wear and love, you’ll be able to find something to wear much more easily.

These are great ideas! I don't wear jewelry much since my youngest is a toddler, but I'm definitely trying to improve my wardrobe. I was getting in the habit of leggings and a tshirt daily, so I needed to do something! I love to add in a pretty print in a shirt or pull over.
