Bringing a puppy into your family home can be a great way of adding another family member and giving your kids something to look after. Of course, puppies can be extremely stressful as they are not usually trained, and you need to make sure that you are ready for the commitment.
In this article, we are going to give you some tips on how you can get your home ready for a new puppy.
Gate For The Stairs
A puppy is quite like having a new baby and you need to make sure that your puppy isn’t going to get anywhere that they shouldn’t. This means that you might need to invest in a gate for your stairs to make sure that the puppy cannot run about up there when you are sleeping or are out of the house. You can find these kinds of gates online or at stores which specialize in baby safety. While this might seem a bit overboard, it will help you out a lot.
Declutter
If you want to make sure that your home is ready for a new puppy then you are going to need to think about spending some time decluttering. Puppies are known for running about and if you have important ornaments lying around in your living room then you are risking them getting broken. Spend some time decluttering your home and hiding away anything that might get in their way. You can make some space by getting rid of junk and having it removed by a company that can recycle things and dispose of the rest.
Where They’ll Pee: Puppies are known for peeing everywhere when you first get them and so you need to make sure that you are prepared for this and that your home is too. If you have carpet in your living room, then you might want to avoid keeping the puppy in this room. If you have rugs, then it might be time to remove these until the puppy has been trained to go to the toilet outside. You will usually pick up some puppy training mats for indoors, but these are not always effective. Make sure to remove anything that might be ruined and you will thank yourself later on.
Conclusion
If you are planning on getting a new puppy then you should make sure to take on board all of the advice that we have given you in this article. Think about spending some time clearing out your home and invest in a gate for the stairs. If you can follow this advice, then you’ll make your home safer for your new puppy and you won’t run the risk of having your home damaged too much. Soon, you’ll have a trained puppy and your home can get back to normal.

De-cluttering is the biggest one that I think most people overlook. A puppy will be into everything it can reach lol

ReplyDeleteHaving a gate really is helpful! I have one and I'm so glad I do.
ReplyDeleteI think puppy-proofing your home is rather like baby proofing it, except puppies are ready to get into mischief a lot faster than newborn babies. Another aspect to consider is the timing of your puppy's arrival .The holidays are not the best time to get a puppy. Consider getting a new pet at a time the household is calm, as normal as possible, and when you have lots of time to devote to the new pup.
