Three Ways To Keep Your Skin Healthy

Believe it or not, your skin is your body's largest organ. Most people are carrying around about eight pounds of it! Needless to say, taking proper care of your skin matters, and can affect your health and happiness. If you haven't been feeling that glow lately, here are three ideas to help you get your skin back to looking – and feeling – its best.

Three Ways To Keep Your Skin Healthy

Hydrate

Keeping your skin from drying out involves more than rubbing on some moisturizer after the shower. You may need to investigate why your skin is prone to dehydration in the first place. One unexpected culprit may be your water. If your house is supplied with hard water (which many homes are), your water likely contains minerals and chemicals – such as chlorine – that can dry out and irritate your skin. A good option is to find a provider for residential or commercial water treatment pittsburgh, or in your town, that can install a water softener or filtration system to treat your water before it ever enters your house. Your skin – not to mention your clothes and appliances – will thank you!

Protect

The benefits of wearing sunscreen have been well-documented, and they're not all about preventing skin cancer (although that's a huge benefit that should not be underestimated!). Applying daily sunscreen can also help protect your skin from premature aging and discoloration. If you don't like the oily residue that many lotion-based sunscreens leave behind, consider a spray-on or roll-on version. You can also find many moisturizers and make-up products that include SPF, so applying sunscreen can become a seamless part of your morning routine.

Sleep

Sleep can help your skin? Actually, yes. Making sure you get at least seven hours of high-quality sleep every night can help reduce wrinkles, improve your complexion and foster a healthy glow. This is because your body directs more blood flow to your skin while you're sleeping, which helps skin make new collagen and repair damaged cells. Even a couple of nights of better sleep can start making a difference. Who knew brighter, healthier skin could be as easy as an early bedtime? That's why they call it beauty rest!

The next time you're reviewing your diet and exercise plan, remember to include your skin care regimen along with your other health goals. Happy people feel comfortable in their skin – and you can't feel comfortable in your skin if it's not at its best.
