3 Common Home Computer Issues And How To Solve Them

Whether you like it or not, everybody needs to use computers these days. Even if you’re not using it that much, the kids probably need it for homework. The problem is, computers aren’t always that reliable. Unless you’ve got somebody in the family that is an IT expert, you’ll have to pay for somebody to come out and fix it and that can get pretty expensive. But the good news is, a lot of the problems are simpler than you think and you can sometimes fix it yourself for free. These are some of the most common home computer issues and how you can fix them easily.

Viruses

There are a lot of viruses floating around online and if you’re not careful about which sites you visit and which emails you open, you could end up with one on your computer. Some of them can delete files from the computer and make it completely unusable. Luckily, there is a fairly simple way around that. You just need to make sure that you’ve got good security software installed on the computer. This will block the majority of viruses and alert you if your computer is infected. In most cases, your security software will be able to get rid of the virus. However, new viruses are being written all of the time and the security software can’t always keep up so you might need to call in a professional in some cases.

Lost Data

We’ve all been there, one slip of the finger and you’ve accidentally deleted an important file. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that it doesn’t disappear forever. The first thing to do is check the recycle bin on the desktop. Most of the time, it’ll be there and you can just restore it. If it isn’t in there, it’s going to be a bit harder to find it, but it is still possible. You can download software to recover lost files, it’s going to cost you but it’s not very expensive and it’s certainly cheaper than calling somebody out.

You might also lose data that was stored on a USB stick that gets broken or you accidentally delete. But don’t worry, it’s not a lost cause. If you’ve got things are particularly important on there, there are ways to recover files from USB flash drive. If you’re struggling to find it, you can download software (similar to recovering from the recycle bin) to find it.

Slow Performance

When computers are getting a bit older, they start to slow down and they become very frustrating to use. Sometimes, this is just because they’re reaching the end of their useful life (around 4 or 5 years). But if you haven’t had it that long, there are a few things you can do. Getting rid of any programs that you don’t use is a good place to start because they’ll just clog it up. You should also clear out any old files that you’re not using any more and you should see a big improvement.

When you’ve got problems with your computer, don’t call somebody out straight away. Try to fix it first because you might save yourself a lot of money.
