Dating Tips for Dog Owners

If you are a single dog owner, dating is potentially going to be a bit more difficult for you than it is for the dog-free person.

When you have a four-legged friend, they demand a lot of your time and attention, and you can’t just drop them whenever you have a hot date. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a lot of fun and potentially meet the one when you have a dog at home. So, be sure to check out my top tips for dating dog owners, below...

Do the initial dating on your phone

If you, understandably, don’t want to be leaving your dog home alone every night while you meet various potential suitors, it’s a really good idea to start out dating via your phone. If you look at these chatlinenumber posts or check the app store for dating apps, you will see there are so many ways to meet people via your phone that it’s a no-brainer. That way, you can avoid wasting your time, or leaving your dog alone for a date that won’t work out, and weed out the best of the possibilities to focus your time on.

But do go on real dates

Of course, your romantic life isn’t going to get very far if you don’t actually ever go out on dates, so try to make your dog feel as safe and comfortable as possible so that you don’t feel too bad about leaving him for a few hours while you meet a date. He’ll be fine!

Plan ahead

Plan your dates in advance so you can make sure you have enough time to walk your dog, play with him for a while, feed him, and settle him in before you head out on a date. If you do this, not only will your dog be happier while you’re out, but you also won’t end up distracted the whole date due to worrying about him sitting at home feeling sad!

Disclose your dog owner status

Not everyone likes dogs. It’s baffling to those of us who DO love them, but it’s a fact of life. So, to avoid wasting your time and theirs, make it known that you have a dog in your life who is very important to you, as soon as you possibly can. Then, if they don’t like dogs, you can move along swiftly and find the dog lover of your dreams.

Don’t talk about dogs all the time

If you’re a dog lover, chances are you will want to talk about your dog, which is fine, but make sure you have other topics of conversation available so that you're not seen as a crazy dog man or woman!

Introduce them gradually

Don’t start bringing dates home and having them stay for hours before you’re introduced them to your pet in a space where he feels comfortable. Meet in a park for the first few times then invite your date over for the afternoon so your dog can become accustomed before they are thrown together for serious lengths of time and you’ll probably have fewer issues.

Enjoy dating!

  1. I never really thought about dating even with my fur babies. This article was very interesting. I love my furry friends! They are a part of my family, so of course, I would want the man in my family to comfortably fit right in. I do know one thing about our pets, they can tell by their instincts if that person is a good person or not. They can help in this way.

  2. I love the ideas. Pets can be a chick magnet, though.

  5. I always choose the dog over the girl. A dog is truly a man's best friend.
