How to Incorporate Fitness as a Busy Entrepreneur

Thriving in your business is great, but sometimes it can take a toll on your health. One of the best things you can do for yourself, and your business, to increase performance and success, is to incorporate fitness into your routine.

It can be difficult when you are a busy entrepreneur and wear many different hats and carry lots of responsibilities on your shoulders. You know you need to, and the intention is often there, but it just never happens.

Getting started is the hardest part. And while your business is understandably a top priority, your health should be too.

Here are some top tips to help you get started.

#1 Be realistic

As an entrepreneur, it is likely that you are great at planning and like to have everything under control. If this is the case, then you can apply this to your fitness routine. Create a plan that is realistic and attainable, and something that you can control. As a high achiever, it is easy to have an all-or-nothing mindset, but then you are only setting yourself up for failure. First decide what you can commit to each week, bearing in mind that even if it is only 2-3 days per week, for 20 minutes, that is enough. Schedule it in your calendar, just like all your other important appointments, so you don’t forget or double book yourself.

#2 Pick short and effective workouts

Studies suggest that short workouts can be effective. It doesn’t have to be anything long or fancy, you don’t even need to pay out for a gym membership and waste time traveling there either. There are plenty of online classes, programs, or apps that you can use to follow along in your own time.

#3 Learn the basics

Workouts can be more stressful and time-consuming when you are new and don’t know what you are doing. You must learn the basics, for example, how to do a lunge, the correct stance for a squat, core engagement, etc. not only to reduce the chances of injury but to help maximize your shorter workouts and keep your exercise fun.

#4 Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep is vital for business success and your health. If you are not getting enough sleep and running on fumes, you are likely going to crash. Your workouts will be doing more damage than good if you can even muster up the energy to get your body moving.

As you increase your exercise, sleep becomes even more important for recovery and muscle repair.

#5 Create a habit

Create a realistic plan, for example, 3 x 20-minute workouts, and stick to it for a minimum of 30 days. Experts say it takes around 30 days to create a habit. It is easy to get started, but harder to stick to something. When you commit to 30 days, you are embedding that new habit into your brain. It may be hard at first, but once you get going, the habit will only become easier to achieve.

Exercise is vital for your health, as well as the success of your business, as it can impact your performance, attention, and decision-making.
