Everything You Need To Know Before You Buy A Drone

Everything You Need To Know Before You Buy A Drone

Those of us who aren’t total technology wizards might feel intimidated by the idea of getting a drone. After all, they look like something from outer space; like creatures from a sci-fi movie about our not-too-distant future. Although drones can seem like they’re only designed for the most enthusiastic tech-heads, this is actually a myth. Many people use drones for a number of different reasons, and no matter your ability or technological knowledge, you too can find a drone which takes stunning footage, without hassle or difficulty.

What Do Drones Actually Do?

If you’re unsure what a drone actually is and what it can do, look no further. A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle, that can fly at a wide range, controlled by its owner who stands on the ground. They are safe to use and most don’t require a license or training. You can purchase toy drones, safe to use with children and not too expensive. Most people, however, opt for fully-equipped drones which can take camera footage at great heights and with a huge range. Shopping for a drone is easy nowadays, with many brands and sellers available. You can compare models of drones online at DrDrone.ca.

Who Typically Uses Drones?

  • Corporations. Drones are used both by individual enthusiasts and by large corporations. Companies such as airlines and environmental corporations use drones to complete safety inspections of dangerous areas and equipment. These amazing pieces of technology can meticulously document data; they can enter dangerous environments to avoid risking human life, and they never make human errors. This makes for an all-round safer inspection than if a human conducted the inspection.
  • Climate change experts. Environmentalists are now using drones to measure vast portions of the earth. For example, arctic researchers use drone technology to measure the chemicals and density of the ice in one location. Once this information is inputted into the drone, the drone can be flown to other locations and can measure the ice in that separate location. This allows scientists to compare data from far-reaching areas - something that would have taken weeks to complete without a drone. Cool, right?
  • Wildlife photographers. Many wildlife enthusiasts and documentary makers use drones to film animals without disturbing them. This practice has become very popular in recent years. Using drones means that the wildlife is not frightened by human photographers, or giant helicopters flying overhead. The most advanced drones are practically silent, meaning they can observe animal behavior without being noticed.
  • Individuals! Although it’s true that drones are mostly used by workers who are conducting research, individuals use drones as a hobby too. Learning to fly your drone and taking amazing footage of your home and its surroundings is an amazing skill.

How Do I Know If A Drone Is For Me?

If you love taking photographs, as so many people do, your dreams have come true. Drones can take beautiful footage that otherwise would only be achievable from a low-flying helicopter. Whether you’re a homebody who doesn’t stray too far out of your backyard or a seasoned traveler who takes multiple trips per year, or somewhere in between - you can take incredible photographs and videos using this device. Investing in a drone is perfect for you if you love trying new hobbies, too!

Why Use A Drone Instead of A Regular Camera?

There are three key reasons why drones are different, and most people would say more fun, than a regular camera.

  • Socialization. Owning and flying a drone is bound to draw attention, as others will wonder what you’re doing and how you’re doing it! Plus, you can make friends through online networks, and get together to compare tips and techniques involved in drone flying.
  • Unbeatable footage. If you are hiking on a mountain that overlooks the ocean, you can take a great picture on your iPhone. But imagine being able to fly directly above the water, looking down on where the mountainous rocks meet the sea. The footage you can achieve with a drone far surpasses a handheld camera in every way.
  • Making the most of the world. Having this device at your disposal will definitely encourage your exploration. Embracing your inner curious child and finding nooks and crannies of the world you have never seen before is a beautiful thing, and with a drone, it’s all the more simple. Exploring with your new hobby will help you appreciate and embrace your surroundings, bringing newfound gratitude to your everyday routine.

  11. Great info! I never really knew much about drones. I'm familiar with them mostly by way of Instagram-- I've seen a lot of great aerial shots of Chicago (I follow several Chicago photographers on Instagram), as well as many beautiful travel photographs and video footage from all over the world.
