How to Create Your Perfect Website

It seems like we do everything online now, doesn’t it? With the world working and relaxing through the internet, especially over the past few months, it’s become increasingly vital to have a good online presence. Whether you’re a business, a reviewer, or an individual wanting to express yourself (and perhaps even get into blogging!) having a good website should be your number one priority. Yet this is easier said than done, as you can probably tell from the sheer amount of cheap-looking, difficult to navigate websites you’ll have come across. That’s because creating a website isn’t simple and there are a few factors you’ll need to consider - but if you follow these tips, you’ll end up with your very own shiny, beautiful portal into the internet world!

Hosting

It might seem boring and technical, but hosting is one of the most important things to think about for your website. Some sites like Squarespace will help both design and host your website, which is nice as it keeps it fairly simple, but if you need your website to have lots and lots of pages or even link to other websites you own, there may be better options. Investigate cheap windows vps, as a virtual private server will offer more support than the usual practice of sharing a server with multiple other websites.

Design

This is the most obviously important part of your website. It’s important to base your design around the content of your site, not just what you love. For example, even if you absolutely love flowers, if you’re making a website for your electrician business, this probably isn’t the aesthetic you want to go for. Having said that, your website should feel like an extension of you; pick a color scheme and design features that make you jump for joy, and you can’t go wrong. Now, you can design and build your website yourself through various user-friendly sites, but if you want that truly sleek look, it’s a good idea to hire a professional web designer to really make your site stand out.

Organization

How many times have you come across a website that looks nice, but which is an absolute nightmare to navigate? You can’t find the pages you want, everything seems hidden down multiple menus, and you keep hitting dead ends, loops back to the home page, or ‘page not found’ messages. This is a sign of bad website organization, and it can put people off you or your business in a heartbeat. Working with your web designer, make sure your site is user-friendly and simple to understand, then watch engagement in your content soar.

Content

Speaking of which, the best websites all have one thing in common - great content! Think about what information you want to have on your site, and how you want to present it. The options are endless; photographs, articles, news, blogs, quizzes, pieces of advice, FAQs - the list goes on and on. Choose the content that both fits the purpose of your website whilst being exciting and interesting to read, and you’ll soon have a thriving and gorgeous site that does exactly what you want it to do.

  9. So true, I tried to create one for my business 5 years ago and it was so glitchy ... the host service never seemed to be able to keep it together that I just gave up. It never occurred to me to switch hosts ... should read this 5 years ago!

  12. Good to know. I don't have a website but I wish ads didn't cover content. It's annoying and something else to think about when designing. Some sites I've visited are almost unusable.
