Tips For Keeping Safe When Using The Internet

The internet is a big place and although the majority of it is safe to use, there are other areas of the web that can contain dark material and a whole host of potential fraudsters and scam artists. Here are some tips for keeping safe when using the internet.

Tips For Keeping Safe When Using The Internet
Have Anti-ware Software

First up, you want to make sure the anti-ware software you’ve got is the best it can be. It should be providing that wall of defense that stops viruses and trojans from getting into your PC. It can also be good to have installed on your web browser to stop you from going onto sites that could  potentially be compromised in some way. It’s really useful to have and normally, you can get one that downloads onto multiple devices so whatever you’re using to browse the internet, you can be safe in the knowledge that it’s protected. You’ll appreciate having it because it can be very easy nowadays to get a virus or have something infect your device if you browse the internet without the proper protection.

Be Careful Of What You Download

Even though you might have anti-ware software, you need to be wary of what you’re downloading. Whether you’re looking to download new software to use on the PC or just an image from a website, troypoint.com put together this guide to advise you on the best torrent sites for example. There are lots of online resources to help with making sure that you take the right precautions before downloading something, especially on an unfamiliar website.

Don’t Share Personal Information Online

Personal information is something you shouldn’t be sharing so frequently and only when you’re needing to pay for certain things. However, never give away personal information like passwords to any of your online accounts or information that could allow others to get into your online banking or other really important financial areas. Too many people have done this before because they may have had an email off their bank requesting them to change their password. Always be wary of scams like this because it could end up with you getting your money stolen. Take precautions and have a rule to not give out any personal information that could compromise your safety or that of your financial situation too.

Choose Strong Passwords

We all get told that we need to have strong passwords or that we need to change our passwords on a regular basis. Doing this can be an effort but it’s worth choosing strong passwords and changing them to avoid getting hacked or have your important data stolen. It might be worth downloading a password software that will generate unique passwords that you don’t need to remember because they get saved to your browser. They can also get changed automatically when you need to.

Being clued up about browsing online is important so do what you can to improve your knowledge and to keep safe when on the web. It can be very beneficial to do so!

  8. I also suggest adding parental control software or even filters on the router/modem to help block inappropriate content. The internet is full of people who want to take advantage of your kids, I always suggest that you put the family computer in the living room or that you randomly monitor their phone, tablet, and even video games that allow chat.

  11. There are few things that help a person remain as productive as they want as having the necessary hardware (laptop, iPhone, Blackberry, you name it) and having quality wireless access to the internet...anywhere! Though there is something beautiful about being able to fall off the grid once in a while, the impotence and frustration of getting caught off the grid against one's will is way too serious a problem for people to forsake wireless internet technologies.
